Mind-Bending Sci-Fi III: Moon 🌖
In movie news: Three 'Jurassic Park' stars are returning for 'Jurassic World 3'
🐪 Happy Wednesday!
The great thing about movies set in space is that you can truly isolate a character, which leads to some fascinating narratives. So, today’s recommendation for a mind-bending sci-fi movie 🧬 is a one-man show set on the moon.
Okay, here’s day 3️⃣.
Today’s movie: Moon
STREAMING ON SHUDDER

What it’s about: Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is just three weeks away from finally returning to Earth after his three-year contract working alone at a manufacturing facility on the moon comes to an end. However, after he injures himself in an accident, he discovers that the moon may not be as deserted as he thinks.
Why it’s great: Moon feels like a good old fashioned science fiction movie. It’s so simple and unassuming. Its vision of the future is remarkably realistic, which makes the twisting psychological narrative all the more compelling. However, so much as director Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son) and screenwriter Nathan Parker do to propel the story, its Sam Rockwell’s magnificent performance of a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown that makes it great.
The key players:

🎭 Sam Rockwell, Dominique McElligott, Kaya Scodelario, Benedict Wong

Fun fact:Duncan Jones wanted to work with Sam Rockwell so much that he wrote this movie specifically for him to play the main role.
Don’t have Shudder? Moon is available to buy or rent on Prime Video, iTunes, and YouTube.
In movie news: A trio of Jurassic Park actors are joining the reboot series

🦕 Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum will be reprising their roles from the original Jurassic Park in the third Jurassic World film. Production is slated to start in 2020 with Colin Trevorrow returning to the director’s chair.
My take: Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom were both disappointing entries in the long-running franchise largely because of Trevorrow’s propensity for schlock. However, having the original trio of actors back *might* be enough to get me to watch it.
